01 — The story

The story

The Purva Tirupati Sri Balaji Temple stands beside National Highway 37 in Guwahati and is dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara. It is modelled on the Sri Venkateswara Temple at Tirupati, and its white exterior follows South Indian temple architecture, with a gopuram at the entrance rising to 70 feet. The building is lit up after dark and can be seen from a distance.

Inside, carved pillars lead to the idol of Lord Balaji, cut from one stone and weighing 4 tons, with idols of Goddess Padmavati and Garuda alongside. Priests hold daily prayers followed by the distribution of prasad. The grounds also contain a Yagasala for rituals, an auditorium decorated with statues and a garden.
