The Mahabahu Brahmaputra River Heritage Centre occupies a restored British-era bungalow at Pan Bazaar in Guwahati that was once the Deputy Commissioner's residence. Its displays use artefacts, photographs and interactive installations to cover the Brahmaputra's geological origins, its cultural importance and its part in shaping Assam's identity.
The campus is laid out for walking, with tree-lined paths, an art garden, an open-air amphitheatre and a café with a glass front. Riverside gardens with viewing decks and art installations look out over the water. The centre also holds art exhibitions, cultural events and workshops on local crafts, traditional music and painting.
