The story

Palasdari Dam was built by Indian Railways to supply water to the nearby Karjat terminus. It stands close to Palasdari station and village on the Karjat–Khopoli state highway in Raigad district. The name is Marathi, joining palas, a tree, with dari, a valley; records from the British Raj spell it Padusdhurree.

The reservoir is a picnic place and a monsoon outing for people from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Panvel, when the hills around turn green and waterfalls appear on all sides. Palasdari waterfall, in the village, is an easy climb for a basic trekker, though the rush of water makes the path harder in the rains. The area also has a math of Shree Swami Samarth of Akkalkot and several old temples that predate British rule. Away from the paths the ground is rough and thick with thorny scrub.
