The story

Rajmachi Fort is a historic hill fort in the Sahyadri range made up of two fortresses, Shriwardhan and Manaranjan. Each has its own citadel, or balekilla, and the pair are joined by a broad machi, a plateau that wraps around both. The fort played a strategic part in the First Anglo-Maratha War and is now a protected monument.

At the southern foot of the Manaranjan citadel, on the plateau itself, lies Udhewadi, a small village that counted about sixty households in the 2011 census, so people still make their homes within the fort's wide plateau.
