The story

Pachpadra Lake is a salt lake at Pachpadra, near the city of Balotra in Rajasthan's Balotra district. Its salt is noted for its purity, with a sodium chloride content of about 98 per cent, and is regarded as being of very high quality.

Salt here is produced by the local Khara, or Kharwal, community, who work the lake using indigenous methods passed down over generations. Their technique makes use of the morli, a local shrub, and yields crystals of high-quality salt.
