The story

Ntangki National Park lies in Peren district of Nagaland, and its name is drawn from Zeme, a dialect spoken by the Zeliangrong Nagas. It began as a reserved forest of about 181 square kilometres in 1923, was enlarged in 1927, became a wildlife sanctuary of some 202 square kilometres in 1975 and was declared a national park in March 1993.

Its forests shelter the rare hoolock gibbon, golden langurs, hornbills, Asian palm civets, black storks, tigers, sloth bears, white-breasted kingfishers, monitor lizards and pythons. In 2022 Asian forest tortoises were released back into the park in a reintroduction carried out with conservation groups.
