The story

Nili Chhatri Temple, also spelt Neeli Chhatri, is an old Shiva temple in the Yamuna Bazaar area of Old Delhi. It stands beside Ring Road, also called Mahatma Gandhi Marg, near the Bahadur Shahi Gate of Salimgarh Fort and near the banks of the Yamuna.

Tradition holds that Yudhishthira, eldest of the Pandava brothers in the Mahabharata, founded both the temple and the neighbouring Nigambodh Ghat, and performed the Ashvamedha sacrifice from this spot. Despite that long legend, the temple appears only rarely in the written chronicles of Delhi, and it is still in worship today.
