The National Museum of Indian Cinema in Mumbai tells the story of film in India, from its beginnings in the late 19th century to the present. A key milestone it covers is Raja Harishchandra, the first Indian silent feature, made by Dadasaheb Phalke.
The collection includes costumes, props, posters and other memorabilia, and the displays move from the silent era to digital production, highlighting celebrated directors and stars as well as lesser-known contributors. Audio-visual and interactive exhibits let visitors try their hand at editing, special effects and dubbing well-known scenes, and explain crafts such as camera work, sound and production design.
