The Hanging Gardens, officially Pherozeshah Mehta Gardens, are terraced public gardens on top of Malabar Hill in south Mumbai. They were laid out in the early 20th century to give residents a green open space, and are named after the barrister and social reformer Pherozeshah Mehta, an important figure in the city's growth.
Winding paths lead up through clipped hedges, lawns, flower beds and shady trees, with plants such as frangipani and bougainvillaea. Benches and viewpoints face the Arabian Sea, taking in the high-rises along Marine Drive and, in the distance, the Gateway of India. The gardens are especially popular around sunset.
