01 — The story

The story

Jehangir Art Gallery has been a central venue for Indian art since 1952. It stands in Kala Ghoda, the art district of south Mumbai, beside the city museum, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, and serves as a meeting place for artists, collectors and the public.

Its seven exhibition spaces host painting, sculpture, photography and ceramics, from the work of masters such as M. F. Husain and S. H. Raza to newcomers shown at events like the yearly Monsoon Art Show. Workshops, talks and lectures run alongside the exhibitions, and the gallery gives young artists a space to show their work and meet the wider art world.
