The story

India's largest tiger reserve, Nagarjunsagar-Srisailam covers 3,728 square kilometres across two states: the Andhra Pradesh part keeps the original name, while the Telangana part, in Nalgonda and Nagarkurnool districts, is the Amrabad Tiger Reserve. Its hills hold plateaus such as Amrabad and Srisailam, rising to 917 metres, and the Krishna has cut a gorge nearly 200 metres deep through it over 130 km. Waterfalls include Ethipothala, Pedda Dukudu, Gundam and Chaleswaram.

Dry mixed deciduous forest, hardwickia woodland and thorn scrub cover the reserve. Tigers, leopards, sloth bears and dholes live here with chital, sambar, blackbuck, chinkara and chowsingha, along with mugger crocodiles, pythons and star tortoises. The area also holds rock shelters and cave temples such as Akka Mahadevi Bhilam, Dattatreya Bhilam, Umaa Maheswaram and Kadalivanam.
