Srisailam Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple

Srisailam Temple stands in the Nallamala Hills of Andhra Pradesh and is dedicated to Lord Shiva, who is worshipped here as Mallikarjuna Swamy. Hindu tradition counts it among the 12 Jyotirlingas found across India, and its sanctum is decorated with detailed carvings.

Several legends are attached to the site. One says Shiva performed the Tandava dance here to humble the demon king Tarakasura. Another links the temple to Markandeya, a devotee of Shiva whose faith shielded him from death.
