CSI St. George's Church in Hyderabad traces its origins to the Church Missionary Society in 1844, and in 1947 it became part of the uniting Church of South India. It grew out of the community of families who served in the Nizam's civil and military service as British influence at the Hyderabad court increased.
Around 1836, with help from the British Resident, the community received land from the Nizam under a firman to build a church. The first building, known as Christ Church and now used as a boys' school, was put up to a plan supplied by the postmaster T. W. Wray. Work began with a foundation stone in February 1844, and services started there on 19 September that year. The baptism register of that first church is still kept in the vestry of St. George's. Holy Communion is held on Sunday mornings at 8.30.
