The story

The Moghal Masjid, whose official name is Masjid-e-Iranian, is a Shia mosque in the Dongri neighbourhood of Mumbai. It was built in 1860 with backing from Haji Mohammed Husain Shirazi, an Iranian merchant then living in the city, and a trust bearing his name still manages it.

The building follows the Qajar style of Iran. Coloured tiles decorate the exterior, while inside, Quranic verses are inscribed on the walls and the carpets and chandeliers were brought from Iran. Reza Kabul carried out a restoration of the mosque in the 1990s.
