The story

Mata Mansa Devi Mandir is dedicated to Mansa Devi, a form of Shakti, and occupies a 100-acre complex on the Shivalik foothills at Bilaspur village in Panchkula district, near Mani Majra and just outside Chandigarh. The main temple, the oldest of three in the complex, went up in 1811–1815 under Gopal Das Singh, Maharaja of Mani Majra. About 200 metres away is the Patiala Shivalaya, built in 1840 by Maharaja Karam Singh of Patiala, with 38 panels of wall paintings and painted flowers on its ceiling and arches. After independence the temples fell into neglect, and since 1991 a Haryana government shrine board has run them.

On an ordinary day the shrine sees a few thousand devotees, but lakhs come for the two nine-day Navratra melas held in Chaitra and Ashvin, when the board sets up tents, bedding and other facilities for pilgrims. A new temple corridor was completed in 2021. The temple is about 4 km from Panchkula bus terminus and 10 km from Chandigarh's.
