The story

Maota Lake lies at the foot of Amber Fort in Amber, about 11 kilometres from central Jaipur. Its old name was Mahavata. It collects rainwater running off the surrounding hills and was once the chief water source for the fort and the people of the town.

In the middle of the lake is an island garden, the Kesar Kyari Bagh, whose saffron plants are said to have been introduced by a 15th-century Maharaja. The Dil-Aaram Bagh lies at the northern end. Visiting the lake itself is free, while going up to the fort is charged. After Ganesh Chaturthi, Jaipur's Ganesha images are carried in procession and immersed in its waters.
