Mansantoshgad and Manohargad are two forts on one hill, divided by a saddle, north of Shivapur village in Kudal taluka, Sindhudurg district. Kudal and Sawantwadi are each 33 km away, and Amboli hill station is close by. Shivaji is believed to have built or repaired the fort; after relieving the siege of Rangana he arrived here on 13 May 1667 and stayed until 15 June.
Control later passed to the Chhatrapatis of Kolhapur, whose garrison rebelled more than once in the 1830s. In the 1844 rising against the British, Fonda Sawant Tambulkar held the fort and rebels made ammunition nearby for Samangad and Rangana; British guns shattered the walls, the rebels fled on 26 January 1845, and the steps were destroyed. A road reaches Gadkarwadi, then a steep forest climb leads to a scarp with broken rock-cut steps. Manohargad, the larger and triangular of the pair, has ruined walls, a well, a gateway and ruined buildings. Overnight stays are not possible.
