The story

Shri Shantadurga (Kalangutkarin) Devasthan stands in Nanora village, Bicholim taluka, Goa, where the goddess Shantadurga is worshipped in the form of Vishweshwari. The temple first stood at Calangute in Bardez; in the 17th century, under forced conversions by the Portuguese, it was moved to Nanora, as many Goan temples were moved to this area. It was renovated in marble in the 1990s.

Shantadurga, also called Santeri, is the goddess who made peace between Vishnu and Shiva: legend says Brahma asked Parvati to intervene in their battle, and as Shantadurga she held Vishnu in her right hand and Shiva in her left. The idol in the sanctum, in the form of a lingam, is over 800 years old. The temple has a deepastambha and guest houses, and its chief festival is the 10-day Shishirotsav, or Shigmo, with processions of the deity on various vahanas, alongside Navaratri, Vasant Panchami, Akshay Tritiya and Dasara.
