The story

Alorna Fort, formally Fort Santa Cruz de Alorna and also known as Halarn Fort, is counted among the oldest forts in Goa. It stands about 30 km from the town of Mapusa in North Goa.

The Bhonsles of Sawantwadi built it in the 17th century to guard their territory against attacks by the Marathas. By 2010 the fort had fallen into poor condition, and plans for its restoration were then under consideration.
