Malpe Beach lies on the Udupi coast, between the busy Malpe fishing harbour and the point where the Udyavara River meets the Arabian Sea. The meeting of calm river water, open sea and rocky outcrops gives the shore its varied look.
The long strip of sand is used both for quiet walks and for water sports such as parasailing, and the beach is popular at sunrise and sunset. Boats run from here to a small island just offshore known for its columns of hexagonal basalt rock and clear water. The cooler, drier months are best; summer is hot and humid, and during the monsoon rough seas often halt water activities.
