Makaliyam Sreeramaswamy Temple stands at Irumpanam in Kochi, beside the Seaport–Airport Road, and is counted among the important Vaishnava temples of Kerala. It is said to have been built under the Chera dynasty. A major fire is believed to have badly damaged nearly all its gopurams and many other structures, and devotees later raised the present temple, which the Cochin Devaswom Board now owns.
Rama is worshipped here in his most powerful form, after slaying the demon Khara, a younger brother of Ravana, and his large army, and the deity is believed to unite the powers of Vishnu and Shiva. Vinayaka and Ayyappa are the sub-deities, and Hanuman is worshipped without an idol. A recent renovation gave the temple copper-plated roofs and walls framed with panchaloha Dasavatara panels.
