The story

Mahatma Gandhi Park, or MG Park, is a public park beside Kollam Beach, about 2 km from Chinnakada, the centre of Kollam. It is one of the city's main places for recreation, owned by the municipal corporation and run on contract by a private firm. The Quilon Beach hotel stands nearby.

Vice President Zakir Hussain opened the park on 1 January 1967. It once had a deer park and an aquarium, which closed because of trouble from anti-social elements. In 2010 the corporation paid for a renovation, marking the park's golden jubilee. Facilities today include a swimming pool, an observatory, fountains, artificial waterfalls, a bowling machine, and sweet shops and a cafeteria.
