Lingambudhi Park in Mysore lies along the northern and eastern sides of Lingambudhi Lake, with gates at Ramakrishna Nagar to the north and Preethy Layout, Srirampur, to the south. The lake is perennial and freshwater, in the basin of the Cauvery.
Built in 1828, the lake remained a typical village water body on the city's rural edge until the late 1980s. It gave the people of nearby Lingambudhi Palya water to drink and irrigate their fields, along with fish, a place to wash clothes and cattle, and a place of worship. Homes at Srirampura now come close to it. A notification of 28 August 2003, following a Forest Department proposal of 2001, declared the lake and its surroundings a protected forest and handed ownership to the department.
