Lalith Mahal Palace stands at the foot of Chamundi Hill in Mysuru. It was put up in the early 20th century by the Maharaja of Mysore, of the Wadiyar line, as a place to lodge the Viceroy of India, one of the most important guests the royal court ever received.
The building is an Italianate palazzo drawing on Renaissance models, with paired columns, a dome, arches and a mix of classical and colonial details, set among terraced and landscaped gardens. It now runs as a heritage hotel, where period suites and formal dining give guests a taste of the style once enjoyed by the Mysore royal family.
