The story

The Nanjundeshwara Temple, also called the Srikanteshwara Temple, is an old Shiva shrine at Nanjangud in Mysuru district. Shiva is worshipped here as Nanjundeshwara, and the temple has been a centre of devotion for centuries, with long-established rituals still followed every day.

The entrance carries Dravidian ornament, and the exterior shows carved pillars, friezes and other decorative work typical of South Indian temple building. In the inner sanctum the image of Nanjundeshwara is dressed in ornaments, and pilgrims come for blessings amid chanting, the scent of incense and the ringing of bells.
