01 — The story

The story

Kudremukh National Park protects more than 600 sq km of the Western Ghats in Karnataka. Its terrain mixes tropical rainforest, open grassland and shola forest, broken by waterfalls and peaks that are often lost in mist, which makes it one of the more varied wild areas in the state.

Elephants and tigers live in the park, along with a wide range of orchids and tall forest trees. Trekking is the main way to see it: the best-known route climbs Kudremukh Peak, and gentler walks start from the Bhagavathi Nature Camp. Along the way the trails open onto long views over the rolling green hills of the Ghats.
