01 — The story

The story

Kudle Beach is a C-shaped stretch of sand on the coast near Gokarna, the temple town known for its Mahabaleshwara shrine. Hills enclose it on three sides, and it is quieter and cleaner than many Indian beaches, which has made the area a popular alternative to Goa. Sunrise and sunset draw visitors, and many come to meditate or practise yoga by the water.

There are no luxury hotels beside the beach; stays are in bamboo huts and simple cottages, with street food and cafés close by. Kayaks, jet skis and banana-boat rides are offered, and ferry trips sometimes sight dolphins. A path leads along the coast to Paradise Beach, and Om, Half Moon, Nirvana and Gokarna beaches are all nearby, as is Mirjan Fort.
