Kothwalguda Eco Park, officially the Kothwalguda Eco-Hill Park, covers 85 acres beside the Himayat Sagar reservoir on the edge of Hyderabad. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority built it at a cost of about Rs. 75 crore, both to widen eco-tourism around the city and to protect the reservoir's catchment. Work began in October 2022 and the park opened on 6 March 2026.
Its centrepiece is the Deccan Birds Aviary, a 6-acre walk-through enclosure under a butterfly-shaped mesh, billed as the world's largest walk-through aviary. Modelled on free-flight aviaries such as Birds of Eden and Jurong Bird Park, it holds about 6,500 birds, including rainbow lorikeets, macaws and tropical finches. An elevated boardwalk of composite wood, 1.5 km long and 30 ft above the ground, gives views over the park and the reservoir. The grounds hold over a million plants of 188 species, with a Japanese garden, a butterfly garden and a rock garden of Deccan scrub plants. Electric vehicles carry visitors around the grounds.
