The story

Toli Masjid, also known as Damri Masjid, stands at Karwan on the historic road that linked Golconda Fort with Purana Pul and the new city of Hyderabad. It was commissioned by Musa Khan, chamberlain, minister and general to Abdullah Qutb Shah, and completed in 1671. According to the chronicle Gulzar-e-Asafiyah, while overseeing work on the Mecca Masjid, Musa Khan received a discount of one damri on every rupee spent, and used the savings to build this mosque, hence its other name.

It is a fine late Qutb Shahi building with strong Hindu influence, best known for its rich decoration of lattice screens, deep eaves, stucco work and other motifs. Originally set in a garden, it is now a state protected monument, though its endowed lands have been encroached and the building is in a neglected state.
