01 — The story

The story

Also called the Kulsumpura Masjid or Jama Masjid Karwan, this mosque stands in the Karwan area of old Hyderabad. Kulsum Begum had it built in the 17th century; she was the daughter of Sultan Muhammad Qutb Shah. No inscription records the exact date.

In style it closely follows other Qutb Shahi mosques of the city. It rises on a plinth about a metre high, and its facade opens through three arches. Two minarets heavily worked in stucco flank the front, and two small arched pavilions break the line of the parapet.
