Koldher Fort stands about 11 km from Chandwad in Nashik district, to the west of Rajdher fort, with which it shares its history. After the fall of Trimbak in 1818 the Maratha garrison surrendered it to the British together with 17 other forts, and Captain Briggs, who inspected it, dismissed it as a poor stronghold.
The base village is Rajdeherwadi, 11 km from Chandwad, which is itself 66 km from Nashik. The trail begins on the hillock west of the village along a broad, safe path with no trees, and reaching the ascent takes about two hours; from Rajdher a southward path crosses to Koldher in one to two hours. The fort is big but easy to climb. Few structures remain apart from well-made rock-cut granaries and storehouses, and there is no water on top.
