The story

Kedarkantha is a Himalayan peak of 12,500 ft (3,800 m) in Uttarakhand, lying within the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttarkashi district. Pine dominates the forest around it, while between 2,000 and 3,000 metres there are stands of deodar, oak and rhododendron. Villagers in the area use deodar in temple building, oak and rhododendron wood for farm tools, and their leaves as fodder.

Wildflowers along the trail include yellow Himalayan flax, drumstick primrose, rhododendron, Himalayan wild strawberry, Himalayan gentian, pink knotweed and grand viburnum, mostly blooming from late March to April. Birds of the area include the chakor, kala titar, Himalayan snowcock, magpie, thrush, parakeet and bulbul. The Himalayan black bear lives here along with marmots and other rodents, and leopards, tigers, barking deer and sambar are seen from time to time.
