The story

Hudson Memorial Church stands at Hudson Circle in the old Bangalore Pete, with the city corporation offices, the Ulsoor Gate police station, Kanteerava Stadium and Cubbon Park all around it. A Kannada congregation of the Church of South India's Bangalore Diocese, it has around 4,000 registered members. People of many faiths come to seek blessings, especially on Thursdays and Sundays.

Its roots lie in Wesleyan work in the Pete from the 1820s, when missionaries preached and opened schools. Its predecessor, the Wesleyan Mission Canarese Chapel, opened in 1859 in Ganigarapet, now Nagarathpet; known locally as the Peta Chapel, it met such hostility that services sometimes needed police protection. By 1904 its 250 members had outgrown it, and a new stone church was built on land bought in 1900 by Rev. J. A. Vanes. It was named after Rev. Josiah Hudson, a missionary and Kannada scholar who started many schools in the Pete area.
