The story

Gurdwara Chhevin Patshahi stands in Basti Sheikh, a locality of Jalandhar city, and commemorates a visit by Guru Hargobind, the sixth Sikh Guru, during his travels in Punjab in the early 17th century. Chhevin Patshahi means 'the sixth king', the title by which Sikhs refer to him.

Tradition says the Guru held a conversation on spiritual matters here with Sheikh Darvesh, a respected Muslim holy man. Wary of Mughal reprisals at a time when Guru Arjan had already been persecuted, the saint is said to have covered his eyes so that he could truthfully tell officials he had not seen the Guru. The gurdwara has paintings and murals of the Sikh Gurus and a holy pool. Gurpurab celebrations draw large crowds, and the langar serves free meals to every visitor.
