Jang-e-Azadi Memorial near Jalandhar is a large memorial and museum to the people who fought for Indian independence, with a particular focus on the contribution and losses of Punjab. The complex covers about 25 acres and was built so that visitors could learn about the sacrifices made by Punjabis in resisting British rule.
The main building is made of red sandstone, a colour chosen to recall the blood of the martyrs, and a large lion statue at the entrance stands for courage. Galleries hold rare photographs, documents and objects from the independence movement, with multimedia displays telling its history. The complex also has a 7D theatre, a 15-minute 3D film and a laser show projected on a water curtain, and the building is surrounded by landscaped gardens.
