The story

Devi Talab Mandir is a Hindu temple complex in Jalandhar dedicated to the goddess Durga and counted among the 51 Shakti Peethas. The temple is around two hundred years old and takes its name from the tank (talab) beside it, where devotees bathe for purification.

According to the Shakti Peetha legend, when Vishnu's discus cut apart the body of Sati, carried by a grieving Shiva, her right breast fell at this spot; the Mata Tripurmalini shrine in the complex marks it. The grounds also hold an old Kali shrine, an image of Shiva seated on a tiger, a recently built replica of the Amarnath cave, and a pyramid-shaped structure reached through a long passage. An ancient banyan, thought to be as old as the temple, is tied with threads by people making wishes. The temple has hosted the Harballabh music festival since 1875.
