Gujarat Science City in Ahmedabad is a centre for science learning and entertainment, opened in 2002 and expanded in 2021. Its IMAX 3D theatre was the first in India, and the first phase also brought halls of science and space, an energy education park with models of the Sardar Sarovar dam, a life science park, a musical fountain, thrill rides and a 1,200-seat amphitheatre.
The Planet Earth pavilion, built in 2009, sits under an earth-shaped dome 50 m across and holds more than 650 exhibits on natural disasters, resources and the planets. The second phase, opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 16 July 2021, brought a nature park along with new galleries on aquatic life and robotics. There are also an aviary and a butterfly park.
