The story

Achut Bibi's Mosque, known locally as the Shahi Masjid, stands with its tomb on the bank of the Sabarmati River at Dudheshwar in Ahmedabad. Malik Baha-ud-din Imad ul-Mulk, a wazir of Mahmud Begada, built it in 1469 for his wife Bibi Achut Kuki, about whom little is known.

Stone walls enclose the complex, entered through two arches flanked by minarets. The enclosure once had seven minarets, all but the lower parts of the mosque pair brought down by the 1819 Rann of Kutch earthquake. South of the mosque, an open canopy of thirty-two pillars and eight domes shelters several unmarked graves, and because flagstones are missing the Bibi's own grave cannot be identified. After damage in the 2001 earthquake the ASI restored the monument, which is of national importance but threatened by encroachment.
