Ganesh Tok is a small temple to Lord Ganesh on a hilltop above Gangtok, at roughly 6,500 feet. It is reached by a winding road out of the town and is as much a viewpoint as a place of worship, with prayer flags strung along the approach and a brightly painted shrine at the top.
From the temple terrace the view takes in Gangtok spread across the slopes below and, on clear days, the snow peaks of the Himalaya with Khangchendzonga at their centre. Many visitors come at sunrise or sunset, when the light on the mountains changes colour.
