The story

Gambhirgad Fort stands 58 km from Dahanu in Palghar district. It belonged to Jawhar State: when Jayabha Mukne became sole master of Jawhar he gave it to a Warli chief, and it later came under the Jawhar State government. The fort is in ruins and awaits restoration.

The base village, Patilpada, is 32 km from Kasa, which is 26 km from Dahanu; Khanvel, 20 km from Silvassa, is another nearby town. Kasa has hotels, and tea and snacks are sold at Saiwan. The trek starts from the hillock south of Patilpada on a wide, safe path of medium difficulty with no trees, taking about two and a half to three hours to reach the gate. On top are water cisterns, a small temple and a bastion, which take about an hour to see.
