The story

The Framji Dadabhoy Alpaiwalla Museum, founded in 1954, is a small museum in Khareghat Colony, Mumbai, devoted to the history and culture of the Parsis and Iranian Zoroastrians. Though small, it gives a close look at the life and beliefs of this community.

Its collection ranges from an antique chest that belonged to Dadabhai Naoroji and a pair of embroidered women's shoes worn for rituals, to old postcards of early Bombay, religious manuscripts and European-influenced furniture. Archaeological pieces from Iran include an ancient clay astodan, a bone container, from Susa. The museum has lent items to exhibitions abroad. A restoration has been under way, and a walk-in fire temple is planned so that visitors can see how Zoroastrians worship.
