The story

Fateh Sagar Lake is an artificial lake in the north-west of Udaipur, surrounded by the Aravalli hills and lined with promenades. It was first built under Maharana Jai Singh and later enlarged by Maharana Fateh Singh, who gave it his name. The rulers made it as a reservoir to keep the city supplied through dry periods.

The lake is known for its three islands. The largest is Nehru Park, a public garden reached by boat; the second is a park with water-jet fountains; and the third holds the Udaipur Solar Observatory. Boat rides and walks along the shore are popular with residents and visitors alike.
