The story

East Parade Church stands on Mahatma Gandhi Road in the old Bangalore Cantonment and is a Church of South India congregation in its Karnataka Central Diocese. Its origins lie in the Wesleyan Mission Chapel of the early 1800s, founded for Wesleyan soldiers of the Madras Army with services in Tamil and English; today services are in Tamil and Malayalam. The name comes from its position east of the parade ground of the Madras Engineer Group.

The foundation stone of the present building was laid on 6 October 1863 on the old chapel's site, and the church was consecrated in 1865. Once called the Wesleyan Cathedral of Bangalore, it could hold 700 people. Eight Greek Ionic columns line the entrance, and there are no pillars inside, so nothing blocks the view of the altar. After extensive renovation it was reconsecrated on 26 February 2006.
