The story

Sri Dwadasha Jyotirlinga Temple stands in the Omkar Ashram on Omkar Hills, Srinivasapura, one of the highest points in Bengaluru. It brings together representations of the twelve Jyotirlingas named in the Shiva Purana, each with its own sanctum and vimana, so devotees can see all of them in one place. Sri Shivapuri Mahaswamiji began building it in 2002 but died in 2007, and the lingas were consecrated on 16 February 2011.

All twelve lingas face east and are Narmadeshwara lingas from the Narmada; around 13,000 small ones lie hidden beneath them. At the centre stands Omkareshwara, about 6 feet tall, under a tower roughly 108 feet high, ringed by the other eleven. The towers for Mallikarjuna and Rameshwara follow the southern style and the rest the northern, mixing both traditions. The ashram also has shrines to Matsya Narayana and Vana Durga, a goshala, a Vedic school, a sacred banyan and a large tower clock.
