Dolphin's Nose is a huge rocky headland in Visakhapatnam, between Yarada village and Gangavaram Port, named for its likeness to a dolphin's nose and a prominent landmark of the city. The rock is 174 metres high and stands 358 metres above sea level.
A lighthouse on the headland guides ships into Visakhapatnam Port; its 7-million-candle-power beam reaches about 64 kilometres out to sea, and the government has suggested including it in plans for lighthouse tourism. Before independence the British Army used the hill as a military camp, and the Battle of Vizagapatam between British and French forces took place near it in 1804. A neighbouring hill carries a temple, a mosque and a church.
