The story

The TU 142 Naval Aircraft Museum on Visakhapatnam's beach road opened in 2017, across from the Submarine Museum. Its centrepiece is a Soviet-built TU-142M that served the Indian Navy for 29 years and logged 30,000 flying hours without an accident before it was retired. Converting the plane cost about INR 3.5 crore, within a state project of INR 14 crore.

An exhibition hall shows equipment from the aircraft's working life, including engines, propellers, survival kits, data recorders, sonobuoys and anti-submarine missiles, with detailed labels. Visitors can also try VR flight-simulator rides. The museum opens every day; adult tickets cost INR 70 and child tickets INR 40, audio guide included.
