01 — About

About Kailasagiri

Kailasagiri is a hilltop park above Visakhapatnam, developed by the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority, with green slopes and wide views over the sea. The Government of Andhra Pradesh named it the state's best tourist spot in 2003. The hill takes its name from Lord Shiva, and shrines to him are spread through the park.

Two large statues stand on the summit: a 40-foot figure of Shiva and Parvati together, and a 20-foot Shanku Chakra Namam representing the conch and discus of Lord Vishnu.

The top can be reached by road, by two stepped footpaths, or by a ropeway whose cable cars run from the foot of the hill to the summit.
