01 — The story

The story

Victory at Sea Memorial, on Beach Road in Visakhapatnam, was set up in 1996 to honour personnel of the Indian Navy and the Eastern Naval Command. It recalls the 1971 war, when Pakistan sent the submarine PNS Ghazi against Visakhapatnam Port and the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, and the Navy repelled the attack.

The seafront grounds display models of missiles, tankers and fighter aircraft along with preserved military hardware, including a T-55 tank and an RZ 61 missile once used in a rehearsal for the Republic Day parade.
