01 — The story
The story
Dimapur Zoo, the only zoological park in Nagaland, lies about 6 km from Dimapur town. Opened in 2008, it covers some 176 hectares and houses roughly 369 animals, birds and reptiles of 47 species, including several endangered ones.
The zoo is popular with families and school groups and runs displays and activities on wildlife protection. Many of its animals were rescued or given by local residents, and it also cares for and rehabilitates injured or mistreated animals.
