The story

Chennamangalam Temple is in Chorode panchayat of Vatakara taluk, Kozhikode district, about 2 km from town. Ayyappa and Shiva are the main deities, and Ganesh, Vishnu and Annapurneshwari are also worshipped. It is considered one of the oldest temples in Kerala and one of the few with a dhwaja prathishta, a consecrated flagstaff. Known as a second Sabarimala, it drew many pilgrims some years ago when a fire at Sabarimala kept them from travelling there.

In 2018 local people helped carry out a major renovation, replacing the original roofs with new teak. The utsavam usually falls in April and is noted for favouring traditional Indian art forms over stage shows. Bhajans are held regularly in the Sabarimala season, and every evening a group sings as it circles the temple.
